Celebrating National Ag Day

The land we sell isn’t just property—it’s history, hard work, and a way of life.

On this National Ag Day, we celebrate the families who have farmed for generations and those who will continue the legacy. If you’re looking to sell or buy farmland, we’d love to help.

Because to us, it’s not just about land—it’s about people.

Video transcript:

“My name is Wayne Barnhart. My parents were Ernest and Faye Barnhart, and we had a farm here in Clear Spring. It was in the family 78 plus years. We milked a lot of cows there and did a lot of work. It was a good experience for a lifetime, it was good. It was just time to let go.

The Hurley Auction Team—I learned to know a lot of them—they’re just good, honest people to work with. It started with my aunt, she needed assisted living. She had over 800 items in her house. So it’s just overwhelming. What am I going to do to help her? She was dependent on me. I thought I got to get this right. Called Hurley, see what they had in mind. Looked like an auction was the way to go. I was a little afraid of it at first, but it went very well for her. She paid her way the whole way through.

A year later, we decided to sell the farm. Hurley Auctions did a good job the first time, so I thought, well, let’s do it again. The farm was 210 acres and we had an offer of $2.1 million before the sale, but we thought about it, and we thought, no, we’ve already committed and we thought we would do better than that. So we continued on with Hurley. We ended up with $3.39 million, so it did very well. And most of it was in agriculture preserve, so it’ll be a farm forever.

On auction day, there was a lot more people there than I expected. They know where to advertise, to reach the most people for what you’re selling. Even if they’re out of town, they can get online and bid on their phone. The outreach is amazing. There’s no end to it.

Don’t be afraid of auction. I mean, I think it’s the way to go for personal property and real estate. I’d do it again if I had another place—I would do it again. So thanks to Hurley Auctions for all their help. They did a fine job.”
